What to wear with navy chinos

What to wear with navy chinos?

Navy chinos are a very versatile pair of trousers. They're not quite jeans and not quite slacks, so they're appropriate for anything from weekend lounging to wearing to work. Chinos in blue shades are particularly versatile, as the darker color allows you to pair them with a wider range of outfits.

We'll go through some simple rules for wearing navy chinos in this article, as well as nine great navy chino outfits for inspiration.

What Do You Pair Navy Chinos With?

Navy chinos are versatile and can be worn with a variety of outfits. To stay sharp on the weekend, pair them with canvas shoes and a t-shirt, or loafers and a shirt for a night out on the town. Pair them with denim jackets to play with textures, and finish the look with a pair of chunky boots to complete the rugged look.

    How to wear navy chinos?

Pants with a looser fit are more relaxed and casual, while those fitted close to the leg are more formal. For a more modern look, consider having a pair that comes just above your shoes. Take a look at the images in looks one and two below for an example.

What colors do you wear with navy chinos?

With navy chinos, you can wear almost any color. Grey, white, and pastel tops, t-shirts, and jumpers look particularly good with the darker pants. Blues are also appropriate, but you should avoid something that suits the color of the trousers too closely. The only exceptions are if the navy is a pattern (as in the picture above), if the navy is a different texture (as in outfit seven), or if the navy is a jacket or blazer that can be broken up with a lighter shirt (as in outfit eight) (outfit one).

What shoes do you wear with navy chinos?

Canvas shoes, as well as casual shoes like loafers and boat shoes, look great with navy chinos. If the rest of your wardrobe calls for it, you can even pair them with smarter shoes. In the winter, I like to pair mine with a thick jacket and heavy leather boots.

Navy chinos, a cable-knit sweater, and Converse

Why does this work? "This is a much smarter—but just as comfortable—alternative to the normal hoodie or sweatshirt and jeans. A cable-knit jumper is textured and soft, making it a little more interesting than your average pullover. Converse can hold up to your errands but still perform at a dinner out, and chinos can be more casual than stiff jeans."

Navy chinos, textured grey blazer, navy waistcoat, white shirt, and knitted tie

Why does this work? "When worn correctly, a waistcoat will make your smart-casual outfits look sharper and more fashionable. Make sure the waistcoat and the blazer are both textured. If you're going to wear a blazer with chinos, go for contrasting color (here, grey) so you don't look like you're wearing a mismatched outfit."

Job boots, navy chinos, white t-shirt, cable-knit sweater, denim jacket

Why does this work? "Denim jackets are more flexible than you would imagine, and they can be worn all year long: as outerwear in the spring, summer, and early fall, or as extra insulation under your coat on the coldest winter days. The outfit is the same as in 1, but the rugged shoes and jumper give it a different feel. Plus, since wearing denim on denim isn't for everybody, chinos are a better option when wearing a denim jacket."
