What do you wear to a graduation party?
Graduation season starts as the school year draws to a close. Graduation parties and festivities fill the first half of summer, and finding the right look for a casual grad party can be difficult.
Normally, the go-to graduation party outfit is a cute summer dress and wedges, but in a more laid-back party, it might feel a little overdressed. For a more laid-back look, or maybe a party with some fun activities, I prefer something more casual to get through a long day of partying!
Some high-waisted denim shorts, a cute crop top, and some comfy tennis shoes (like black high-top Converse) are a perfect go-to for a laid-back graduation party. High-rise denim has been a popular trend for a few years, but when something is popular for too long, it can become monotonous.
Finding a new way to spice up a classic look is always a good idea! This Fashionista added interest to her casual ensemble by wearing denim shorts with a cute denim belt built right in. For two reasons, this is brilliant. To begin with, this instantly adds a fun and quirky detail that complements her style.
A great step!
Graduating from college or high school is a significant achievement that deserves to be celebrated with friends and family. And if you have a graduate in your life, you'll almost certainly be welcomed to the celebrations that follow. If you have a few or several graduation parties to attend, you'll want to be prepared with a variety of graduation party outfits for every occasion.
Of course, like most celebratory occasions, dressing for a graduation party is easier said than done. You'll also want to make sure your outfit is suitable for anything from a garden party to a casual backyard barbecue, depending on the atmosphere of the parties you're attending.
Graduate-level advice:
Over your uniform, you'll have your cap and gown on, but it's traditional to wear something nice underneath.
For men, this entails a pair of nice trousers and a button-down shirt (maybe even a tie). Ladies, that means a comfortable pair of pants or a casual dress/skirt. Graduation gowns may be as plain as a little black dress or as vibrant and colorful as you want them to be. Just make sure your lovely graduation gown matches your cap and gown!
Footwear, Choose your shoes carefully, particularly for the ladies. If your graduation is on the lawn, you might want to avoid wearing stilettos (especially if it's been raining recently—you'll sink right in!). Choose a cute ballet flat or a wedge heel instead. Open-toed shoes are appropriate, but avoid flip-flops that are too casual.
Give it a shot: Since you only have one graduation day, it's worth practicing. Before you go, try on your cap and gown to see how it looks with your dress. Is it easier to wear your hair up or down? Is your black graduation gown clashing with the color of your gown? Graduation is a day when you are the focus of attention, so expect to be photographed a lot. You'll want to put the best foot forward!
Parents/families will benefit from the following suggestions:
Consider the venue of the graduation when choosing your attire. Will you be seated on the school's bleachers in the sweltering heat or in an air-conditioned auditorium? You'll want to look good, but keep in mind where you'll be so you can be relaxed.
Ready to take a picture: You'll want to be in the photos with your graduate, so keep that in mind when choosing an outfit. Avoid patterns and colors that contrast with the cap and gown of your graduate.
