Men’s wide brim hat fashion

Men’s wide brim hat fashion

When you think of wide-brimmed hats, you probably think of women wearing them. And you are right. After all, who can keep track of how many ladies wear floppy hats in the summer and fall?

Broad brims, on the other hand, are more than just a traditional women's hat style. They're a great option for guys who want to bust through the baseball cap barrier and up their hat game.

So, what exactly is a wide-brimmed hat? It's a hat with a brim that's at least 3 inches wide. When the sun is shining brightly and you need to shield your face, head, and neck from harmful UV rays, this comes in handy. A big brim also serves as excellent protection from the elements.

Wide-brimmed hats have a lot of sartorial swagger in addition to being functional. Whether dressed up or down, they command attention. Read on to learn more about the best men's wide-brim hat styles, and use our hat size chart to make sure you get the right fit before you buy.

Hat Fedora

Aside from the baseball cap, the fedora hat is perhaps the most famous men's hat. It is a piece of fashion history that has long intrigued both men and women. It's a versatile shape with a pliable brim, dented crown, and side pinches that works for a variety of face shapes and occasions.

Sure, it has its fair share of detractors these days, but we blame it on the trilby. (If you don't believe us, check out our comparison of the trilby and the fedora.)

Fedoras with shorter brims are common, but a wide-brim fedora, such as the eye-catching Zoot by Scala, is a fine finish if you have the swagger to match. Fedoras were originally felt caps made of fusible acetate.

Hat for a cowboy

Cowboy hats, also known as western hats, can conjure up memories of old John Wayne films, but they're a timeless topper that's made its way from dusty saloons in the Wild West to today's asphalt jungles all over the world.

These wide-brimmed hats, with their large crowns and sometimes made of straw or wool felt, are generally rolled up at the corners, giving them the distinct cowboy look. Scala's Loudon western hat is perfect for a western look. It's made of Toyo straw and has a Concho band and chin cord to keep everything in place.

Hat for Boaters

The boater cap, named after the sport for which it was designed, was once a popular sight at formal boating and sailing events. Boater hats, unlike other types of hats, are often straw hats with a flat top, flat brim, and short crown. Senet straw is widely used, but other straw types such as Toyo, raffia, shantung, and Panama may also be used.

Boater hats were originally designed with a mid-size brim and a red-and-blue ribbon hatband, which we have in stock. Check out our Scala Paddock Panama boater, which is manufactured in the United States.
