How to wear a football jersey that's too big

Real sports jerseys aren't considered a wardrobe must-have among the style set, so we'll keep it short and sweet. Maybe the ones with "CELINE" emblazoned across the front, but we're talking about genuine squad tops from Sports Authority, not Saks Fifth Avenue.

But—and there's a bit—we've discovered that with the right inspiration, you can transform a shirt from your favorite team into an outfit MVP (see what we did there?).

You've got a great selection of jerseys in your wardrobe. It's game day, and you're all set to represent your squad. Let's pretend you're a die-hard Chargers fan for the sake of the story. You put on your throwback Junior Sea (may he rest in peace) jersey, jeans, and shoes, and tuck your jersey into your jeans.

You've now ruined what should have been a fantastic ensemble. “As long as I have a nice jersey on, I'm good to go,” many sports fans believe. Regrettably, this isn't always the case. Style points matter, just as they do in other aspects of life (I hope Will Muschamp sees that last sentence). Take a few tips from me if you want to look nice when watching your favorite team.

Important tips

It's a lot of fun to wear a jersey! It shows that you support the home team (or don't! ), and it can help you feel connected to other fans. However, it's not always the most straightforward piece of clothing to put on with panache. Determine how you want to tuck your jersey and experiment with a few different looks before you find the one that fits you best.

Choose a size larger jersey. Jerseys are not intended to be fitted like a dress shirt. Instead, it should look like a sweatshirt, so try one on and aim for that fit, or order a size larger than you usually do if you're shopping online. Make sure it doesn't hug your body when you put it on.

There are, of course, exceptions to this law, such as when tucking it into slim trousers or a pencil skirt. Then you'll want it to be even tighter, so go for your normal size.

Purchase from a reputable store. And if you can find knockoffs for a low price, they will most likely look like cheap knockoffs. If you want to look good in a jersey, go for approved brands because they appear to last longer and look newer.

Bad stitching or even misspelled words are common in knockoffs. You can come across images of poor quality on the internet.

If possible, choose a stitched jersey. Since most jerseys are pricey, the stitched jersey is a better choice if you have the extra cash. Over time, it will hold up better. In the wash, the painted-on version will crack and fade.

Look for existing players' jerseys. Although it's fun to sport a throwback once in a while, you want to show your love for the current squad! As a result, wear a current player's jersey to demonstrate your support for the home team.

It's more appropriate to wear an older player's jersey if you're older. After all, you've been a fan for a longer period than the majority! You have the freedom to dress as you please.

Authentic, stitched jerseys will cost upwards of $200. Registered replicas, on the other hand, can be much less expensive while still being of high quality.
